HYDRAA Remarks by Telangana CM Spark Political Controversy
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has found himself at the center of a political controversy after claiming that the state’s anti-encroachment agency, HYDRAA (Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency), was inspired by Adolf Hitler. Elevaredailynexus
Speaking at a conclave in Bengaluru on Saturday, Reddy stated that the term “Hydra” was allegedly associated with Hitler and his close associates. During the interaction, he remarked that he had drawn inspiration from the concept while naming the agency.
The comments quickly attracted criticism from political opponents and historians alike. Experts pointed out that there is no verified historical evidence linking Hitler or his inner circle to the term “Hydra.” They noted that the word has appeared in various historical contexts, including military operations during World War II.
The remarks triggered strong reactions from the BJP and the BRS. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused the Congress party of displaying an authoritarian mindset and questioned whether the party leadership would respond to the Chief Minister’s comments.
In a post on social media platform X, Poonawalla criticized the statement, linking it to what he described as a history of undemocratic practices. He also referred to recent controversies involving the Telangana government and alleged restrictions on journalists and students.
The BJP leader further took issue with Reddy’s comments on regional representation and taxation. During the conclave, the Chief Minister reportedly expressed concerns about the concentration of national leadership positions in northern India and argued that southern states contribute significantly to the country’s tax revenues.
Calling the remarks divisive, BJP leaders accused Reddy of attempting to create a regional divide between North and South India. The controversy has since intensified political exchanges between the ruling Congress and opposition parties. Elevaredailynexus
