Telangana DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy Dismisses Any Maoist Resurgence Despite Recent Surrenders
Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) B. Shivadhar Reddy on Tuesday dismissed concerns about a Maoist resurgence in the state, citing a complete absence of recruitment and local support. Highlighting that over 500 members of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoists) surrendered to the Telangana Police in 2025, he noted that the ultras are steadily laying down their arms.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “There is no question of any resurgence, nor is there any support for them, and no recruitment is taking place. We firmly believe this issue will not become active again.”
The DGP’s remarks came in response to queries regarding the presence of active Maoist groups or any threat of their revival in Telangana. In 2025, a total of 509 underground CPI (Maoist) cadres, including two central committee members and 11 state committee members, surrendered to the police. Among them, 483 were from Chhattisgarh, 24 from Telangana, and one each from Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.
When asked about the possibility of Maoists regrouping, DGP Reddy said, “I don’t think so. Not only are they surrendering, but they are also laying down their weapons, which indicates they have lost their momentum and appeal.”
Addressing allegations by BRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao that the crime rate in Telangana had risen, the DGP refuted the claim, asserting that law and order in the state is fully under control.
