Madras High Court orders CBFC to grant censor certificate to Jana Nayagan Nation.

Chennai: The Madras High Court on Friday instructed the CBFC to issue a U/A certificate to actor-turned-politician Vijay’s forthcoming film Jana Nayagan. Earlier, on January 7, the court had reserved its order on a petition seeking directions to the Central Board of Film Certification to grant the movie a ‘UA 16+’ censor certificate.

When the matter was heard on January 6, Justice P. T. Asha had orally directed the CBFC to place on record by January 7 a copy of the complaint alleging that the film hurt religious sentiments.

The filmmakers informed the court that although the film was initially recommended for U/A certification, it was later referred for review. The CBFC, however, told the court that despite a release date being fixed for January 9, the film could be released only after obtaining the required certification.

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features Vijay, Prakash Raj, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, among others. The completed film was submitted for certification on December 18. On December 19, the censor board reportedly suggested the removal of certain scenes and muting of some dialogues. Despite complying with these changes, the production house stated that the censor certificate had still not been issued.
