Setback for Vijay’s “Jana Nayagan” as HC Division Bench Stays Censor Certificate in Tamil Nadu
The Division Bench has stayed the earlier directive, and the next hearing is scheduled for January 21.
Hyderabad: The release of actor Vijay’s highly anticipated film Jana Nayagan has encountered a fresh legal setback, with a Division Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday staying a previous order that had cleared the way for the film’s certification. This came only hours after a Single Bench had directed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to grant the film a ‘U/A’ certificate.
The relief was short-lived, as the CBFC swiftly filed an appeal against the Single Bench’s directive. Taking up the appeal, the Division Bench issued an interim stay on the earlier order, thereby suspending the grant of the censor certificate. The court has scheduled the matter for further hearing on January 21.
Key points at a glance:
Single Bench order: Directed the CBFC to issue a ‘U/A’ certificate to Jana Nayagan.
Appeal: Filed by the CBFC before a Division Bench.
Current status: The Division Bench has stayed the Single Bench order; the next hearing is on January 21.
