Pune Fort Murder Probe: Police Turn to Gait Analysis to Strengthen Case Against Accused | Elevaredailynexus
The investigation into the alleged murder of Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal has entered a new forensic phase, with Pune Rural Police relying on gait analysis to establish the presence of one of the accused at the crime scene.
Investigators have recreated the sequence of events at Lohagad Fort, where Agarwal lost his life after falling into a deep gorge during a trek on June 18. Police suspect the fall was not accidental and allege that it was part of a planned murder involving his fiancée, Siya Goyal, and her alleged partner, Chetan Chaudhary. Both have been arrested and are facing charges of murder and criminal conspiracy.
Since CCTV footage reportedly captured a hooded individual whose face was not clearly visible, forensic experts are examining the person’s walking pattern. By comparing the gait seen in the surveillance footage with recordings of Chaudhary’s movements during a police-led reconstruction, investigators hope to determine whether the two match. Officials believe gait analysis can serve as an important piece of corroborative evidence when facial identification is not possible.
As part of the reconstruction exercise, police also used a dummy weighing approximately the same as the victim to understand how the incident may have unfolded at the fort. The exercise is intended to verify witness statements, examine the physical feasibility of the alleged sequence of events, and reinforce the forensic findings collected during the investigation.
According to investigators, the probe has uncovered evidence suggesting that the crime may have been carefully planned in advance. Police are examining digital records, CCTV footage, and other forensic material while continuing to investigate the motive behind the alleged conspiracy. The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations against the accused are yet to be tested in court.
