Severe Coldwave Continues in Telangana; Kohir Logs 6.6°C
Hyderabad and Several Districts Reel Under Coldwave; Chill to Persist for Another 36 Hours Before Easing
Hyderabad: An intense coldwave continued to sweep across Telangana on January 9, with temperatures dropping sharply in Hyderabad and several districts. Weather experts said the cold conditions are likely to prevail for another 36 hours before a gradual easing sets in.
Within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, the lowest minimum temperature was recorded at HCU, Serilingampally, where the mercury fell to 8.4°C. Moula Ali followed with 8.8°C, while Rajendranagar registered 8.9°C. Other areas that experienced chilly conditions included Qutbullapur (10.7°C), Alwal (11°C), Sivarampalle and West Maredpally (11.2°C each), Macha Bollaram (11.3°C), and Jeedimetla (12°C). Gachibowli recorded 12.1°C, Kishanbagh 12.2°C, Mehdipatnam 12.4°C, Begumpet 12.5°C, while Neredmet, Tirumalgiri, Hayathnagar, and Nagole hovered around 12.6°C.
Elsewhere in Telangana, Sangareddy district’s Kohir reported the lowest minimum temperature at a frigid 6.6°C. KB Asifabad’s Tiryani recorded 7.1°C, followed by Moinabad in Rangareddy at 7.2°C. Kamareddy’s Jukkal registered 8.1°C, Marpalle in Vikarabad 8.2°C, and Bheempoor in Adilabad 8.3°C. Other cold pockets included Gambhiraopet in Sircilla (9.1°C), Markook in Siddipet (9.2°C), Yeldurthy in Medak (9.4°C), Tadwai in Mulugu (9.6°C), and Saloora in Nizamabad (9.7°C).
