Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar has cautioned motorists that strict action will be taken against drunk driving during the New Year celebrations. In a post on X, he announced that special checks will be carried out on Tuesday night at 120 locations across Hyderabad, with the intensified enforcement continuing through the first week of January.
He warned that anyone caught driving under the influence of alcohol will face severe penalties, including hefty fines, seizure of vehicles, possible imprisonment and suspension of driving licences. The police will also act firmly against rash driving, triple riding and public nuisance.
Emphasising safety, Sajjanar urged those who consume alcohol to refrain from driving and opt for cabs or designated drivers instead. He appealed to citizens to welcome the New Year responsibly and enjoy the celebrations safely with their families and friends.
